Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Vocal Jazz or Jazz Singing is an instrumental approach to jazz using the voice. Similar to a cappella, it uses vocal arrangements to create sounds forming music, rather than relying on traditional musical instruments. Characteristics of vocal jazz include the ability to swing, the ability to interact in a creative and musical way with improvising musicians, and the ability to transform quality songs into something distinctive and personal.

The Barnstable High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble has placed in various festivals and competitions in past years, such as the annual Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival, and performs throughout the school year at various concerts including the BHS Winter and Spring Concerts.
