The Barnstable Public Schools conduct the following health screenings as mandated by MA General law and the Department of Public Health. Parents/guardians can request in writing to the school nurse if you do not want your child to participate.
Vision Screening: Grades K-5, 7, and 10 annually
Hearing Screening: Grades K-3, 7, and 10 annually
Postural Screening: annually in grades 5-9 annually
Growth Screening: Grades 1, 4, 7, 10 height, weight and body mass index (BMI) annually
Parents/guardians will be notified by the health office if their child fails a vision, hearing or postural screening.
Every student needs a general examination upon entering the school district, upon admittance to the kindergarten, 3rd, 7th, and 10th grades. Students who are candidates for a school athletic team will need a sports physical exam annually.
