Safety & Security--Raptor

October 3, 2018

Dear Centerville Families,

I am writing to give you an update to what steps we are taking as a district to improve the safety and security of our school.  As I mentioned in a previous letter home, we are an ALiCE trained district. On October 24 at 7:00 PM, I will be doing a presentation for the school community on ALiCE with the Barnstable Police Department.  This night is for the parents of our school community since we will be talking about a sensitive topic. Please mark this date on your calendar.

We have implemented a new check-in system district-wide.  The Raptor System is a check in system that runs a check on anyone who is volunteering in our schools.  Please plan on having a driver’s license or other identification like a passport if you are coming to school to volunteer.  I have attached an informational document about Raptor for you to read so that you will better understand how it works.

Our next inservice day on October 10, we will be providing staff with some ALiCE training as well as professional development in the area of Responsive Classroom, which is another district-wide initiative.  Responsive Classroom is the integration of social emotional skills with the academics we are trying to teach which creates and environment that maximizes student learning. This has been a big part of our school improvement plan for the last two years.  Please make sure your child is in school on this half-day. Our staff still teaches in the morning and the lessons are as important as if it were a full day of school.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (508)790-9890.

Thank you,

Mr. Scheufele
