BPS Quarantine Protocols

Barnstable Public Schools Updated Close Contact (Quarantine) Protocols

NOTE: Students are exempt from quarantine requirements if they are identified as a close contact of a positive case of COVID-19 as long as they remain symptom-free. It is still recommended that they wear a mask while around others for 10 days and to get tested on days 2 and 5 following the exposure.

Non-Household Exposures

(i.e. at an extracurricular activity, at a friend’s house, etc):

  • Return to school provided that they:
    • Remain asymptomatic and wear a mask through day 10.
  • It is HIGHLY recommended to get tested 2 days and 5 days after the exposure (the school can provide extra tests if requested)
  • IF SYMPTOMS DEVELOP, do not go to school - contact the school nurse

    • Remain asymptomatic and wear a mask for 15 days after the positive person’s test or symptom onset.
  • It is HIGHLY recommended to get tested multiple times during this window (the school can provide extra tests if requested).
  • IF SYMPTOMS DEVELOP, do not go to school - contact the school nurse
