Symptomatic

Protocols for Symptomatic Students & Staff

Caregivers must monitor students and staff must monitor themselves daily for the following symptoms.

If Symptoms are Present, the Individual:

  1. Must NOT report to school.
  2. Must call the school to report the absence and seek guidance from the school nurse.
  3. Must receive a negative COVID-19 test (PCR) or an alternative diagnosis from a medical provider. Alternatively, the individual can isolate at home for 10 days (see below for details).

COVID-19 Symptom List

  • Fever (100.0° Fahrenheit or higher), chills or shaking chills
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath 
  • New loss of taste or smell 
  • Muscle aches or body aches 
  • Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough) 
  • Sore throat (when in combination with other symptoms) 
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (when in combination with other symptoms) 
  • Headache (when in combination with other symptoms) 
  • Fatigue (when in combination with other symptoms) 
  • Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) (when in combination with other symptoms)

COVID-19 Positive (10 Day Isolation)

Must remain home for at least 10 days after symptom onset or positive test (if asymptomatic). 

Return to school: after 10 days and once they have:

  • Been fever free for 24 hours (without the use of medication)
  • Experienced an improvement in symptoms

COVID-19 Symptoms: Diagnosed as an Alternative Diagnosis by Medical Provider

Return to school: based upon medical provider’s direction for diagnosis and once they have:  

  • Been fever free for 24 hours (without the use of medication)
  • Experienced an improvement in symptoms

COVID-19 Symptoms: Negative COVID-19 Molecular Test Result

Return to school: with a negative molecular* test and once they have: 

  • Been fever free for 24 hours (without the use of medication)
  • Experienced an improvement in symptoms

COVID-19 Symptoms: Not Tested AND Do Not Have an Alternative Diagnosis 

Must remain home for 10 days from symptom onset.

Return to school: after 10 days and once they have: 

  • Been fever free for 24 hours (without the use of medication)
  • Experienced an improvement in symptoms

*Negative antigen tests will not be accepted to return to school
