Great News! Our Community Read has arrived! Earlier this week, I sent out a flyer announcing our upcoming Community Read - Fish in a Tree. This book will be used to support our English Language Arts remote learning plan for the remainder of the school year. In addition, we will be using this book to support our summer reading program. Fish in a Tree was selected as our Community Read because of the book’s strong messages about growth mindset, alignment to our Social Emotional Learning curriculum, and very real characters with whom students can connect. We are excited for you to partner with us in this!
All students will be receiving a copy of Fish in a Tree. We have also put together a set of school supplies for each student that we hope you will find helpful - we will be providing every student with these resources along with their copy of Fish in a Tree.
We are very excited about all of the opportunities the Community Read will provide for our students - connections to learning, connections to classmates, reduced screen time for accessing remote learning, and most important, a common experience for all K - 5 students and families. Additional information will be forthcoming to share the range of supports and resources that have been developed in conjunction with the Community Read.
At BUES, We will be holding distribution days for families to pick up the book and school supplies on Monday, May 18th and Tuesday, May 19th. Pick up hours are 9 AM-11 AM and 12 PM-2 PM. Pick up will be by the garage. There will be signs posted to follow.
If you have a student at one of the K-3 schools, you may pick up their materials on Monday at BUES for one stop shopping. We will only have books for grades 4 and 5 on Tuesday.
In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you might have regarding our upcoming Community Read.
