Substitute Information

Thank you for your interest in substituting for the Barnstable Public Schools. A completed application package, appropriate transcripts and proof of fingerprinting must be submitted in order for consideration of a job assignment.

Barnstable Public Schools is using SmartFind Express, an online service, to place substitutes. Eligible substitutes will receive instructions to register with SmartFind Express once all the necessary criteria have been completed. 

Substitute teachers are required to have a minimum high school diploma.  48 or more college credits is preferred.

The rate of pay for per diem substitute teachers in the Barnstable Public School district is:
  • $105.00 per day for non-certified teacher substitutes
  • $115.00 per day for current MA certified teachers or retired Barnstable Public School teachers. Proof of current certification must be submitted in order to qualify for $115.00 per day rate.

Substitute Paraprofessionals are required to have a minimum high school diploma.  24 or more college credits is preferred.
