Hyannis West Elementary is a Title One school. Title One is a federally funded program that enables schools to provide extra help and instruction for students who need it most. Since we are a ‘school wide’ Title One school, all Hyannis West students are eligible to receive supplemental instruction. At Hyannis West, many students receive extra support in reading and mathematics in grades k-3. Some students work with a reading or math teacher in the classroom. Other students meet in small groups outside the classroom for instruction targeted to their specific needs.
How are students selected to receive Title One/Reading and Math Intervention pull out services?
Students are selected to receive pull out reading and/or math instruction based on academic need demonstrated on multiple assessments and teacher recommendations. Title One/Intervention teachers may work with different students at various times depending on academic needs.
Who will be providing the intervention?
Fully certified teachers provide supplemental instruction in reading and math.
- Michelle Keating, Reading Specialist
- Caitlin Corierri, Reading Interventionist
- Barbara Burke, Reading Interventionist
- Melissa Kennelly, Reading Interventionist
- Lisa Carrol, Math Interventionist
How long will my child receive intervention services?
Students progress is carefully monitored and groups are reevaluated every 6-8 weeks to determine if Title One support is still warranted.
