  • Cape Cod Healthcare Partners with Sheriff’s Office’s 2024 Youth Academy

Barnstable County Sheriff Donna D. Buckley is pleased to announce that registration is open for the 2024 Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Summer Youth Academy, which runs from July 1 to Aug. 1 at the Cape Cod Community College campus.

This summer’s program is fully funded by Cape Cod Healthcare. Cape Cod Community College has generously donated the space for a second year.

Youth between the ages of 13 and 16 are invited to participate in this program of personal growth and development. The Academy runs four days a week, Monday through Thursday. “I’m thrilled to offer the youth on Cape Cod a program that will change their lives and shape their futures,” said Sheriff Buckley. “The youth of this community are one of the top priorities of this Office. We are grateful to all our partners, especially our sponsor Cape Cod Healthcare. They understand that the resources spent influencing children at a young age will deliver countless positive benefits for the future.”

“We are very proud to partner with the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and support this summer’s 2024 Youth Academy program,” said Cape Cod Healthcare President and CEO, Michael K. Lauf. “Through our Community Benefits initiative, Cape Cod Healthcare is committed to reinvesting back into our community and helping local organizations who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of all who live here. We commend the Sheriff’s Office for providing a program that builds a strong foundation for local youth on many levels.”

Students will work with deputies from the BCSO, law enforcement officers, and youth experts from all over Cape Cod to develop pro-social skills and resiliency. In collaboration with local community partners, the youth will learn self-control, respect, teamwork, integrity, and positive communication. They will also have fun and make new friends. The program lasts five weeks. The goal of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Youth Academy is to empower individuals, families, and communities to put an end to violence and crime, and to stop substance abuse and delinquency.

Space is limited. Please submit a completed Youth Academy Application to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office for acceptance into the program by June 11, 2024. For more information, and to obtain an application for a student, please contact youthprograms@bsheriff.net.

  • Barnstable Local Comprehensive Planning Committee: Seeking New Members

The town is seeking new Local Comprehensive Planning Committee members as we have had a few members step down. The current Local Comprehensive Planning Committee (LCPC) is comprised of representatives of all seven villages and members of several Town Boards and Committees.

The Town Manager is seeking to appoint additional members to the Local Comprehensive Planning Committee as it begins phase two of the planning process. The Town is looking to diversify representation on the Committee to ensure the Committee’s makeup is reflective of the community’s population and is therefore seeking applications, particularly from people of color, people with disabilities, and people whose first language is not English.
