    Hello Hyannis West Families!

    • Thank you to all the families who joined us for the Title I Storytelling event with Antonio Rocha.  He told stories from around the world and both students and families had a great time!

    • On Friday, the school-wide assembly focused on Memorial Day.  Our Music Teacher, Mrs. Gonsalves, led our school in singing God Bless America and God Bless the USA.  Some 3rd graders also performed the Caisson Song using drumsticks. A reminder that there is no school Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day.

    • During the half day on Friday, the Hyannis West staff participated in professional learning focused on Barnstable’s Vision of a Graduate.  We then celebrated parts of this year’s School Improvement Plan that were successful, identified areas of need, and discussed goals for our School Improvement Plan for the next school year.

    • With only 14 school days left, students may start to express different feelings: excitement, worry, fear, happiness, etc.  The end of a school year can bring up lots of emotions for our students.  Please reach out to one of our School Counselors, Jen Malone or Christine O’Gara, if your child needs someone to talk to about the feelings they are having.

    • On June 1st there is NO Kindergarten for students. There IS school for students in grades 1, 2 and 3. This day is Kindergarten screening and orientation for incoming Kindergarten students.  If you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1st and you haven’t registered yet, please start the process here https://registration.barnstable.k12.ma.us/login.

    • The Hy West Penny War, sponsored by the Hy West PTO is over!  Thank you to everyone who contributed!  We will total the donations for each classroom to reveal which classroom collected the most.  Stay tuned!

    • At the end of this newsletter you can see our Star Students from the week of May 15th.  These students showed what it looks and sounds like to be assertive and to use their words for what they want and need.

    • The last Hyannis West PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization) meeting for the year is this  Thursday, June 1st, 6:00 - 7:00 pm via Zoom. Click here for the Zoom link.

    • If your child is too sick to attend school, please report their absence to Nurse Ricki at (508) 790-6480 ext. 1532 or via email at balestri_ricki@mybps.us.  Below are this year’s COVID protocols:

    • Please use these important links as needed:

    • For student safety, it’s extremely important to update your child’s contact information each year. To update your child’s information, click https://www.barnstable.k12.ma.us/update_portal.  The username is your child’s 6 digit ID (“lunch number”) which the classroom teacher can provide for you. The password is your child’s birthdate _ _/_ _/_ _ _ _.

Please check your child’s backpack nightly and check your email frequently as this will by the school’s primary method of communication with our families.  If you ever have any questions, concerns or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, Mr. Currey or me.

    Respectfully,
    Kathi Amato
