Welcome to the West Villages Elementary School Psychologist webpage! My name is Kate Hefty and I have been the school psychologist here since we opened as WVES in September 2010. This is my 25th year as a school psychologist, having worked previously in Iowa (1990-1998), Texas (1998-2000), and at other schools in Barnstable since 2000. I earned my graduate degree in school psychology from Central Michigan University. Comparable to the CAGS degree in Massachusetts, I was awarded my Specialist in Psychological Services (S.Psy.S) in 1990. I hold National Certification as a School Psychologist (NCSP). I love what I do and I appreciate the opportunity to be involved in the lives of so many wonderful children and their parents, not to mention our caring and dedicated staff here at WVES!
I plan through this webpage to provide parents and teachers with information and resources that will increase understanding and insight in regard to a variety of challenges many of us face. I have provided a few links related to topics such as self-control and depression in children, executive functioning (i.e., the secretary in your head that helps you do what you need to do), and resilience, to name a few. Please feel free to e-mail me if you would like to see postings on other topics, and I will do my best to accommodate. If you have any comments or feedback on these articles, please fell free to e-mail me at the address listed below.
Thanks for visiting my page!
