Actively engaged in not only hands-on learning, but more importantly minds-on learning!
Welcome note:
Please take a look at our new BIS Science web home page. The goal of this page is to provide resources for our students, parents and teachers to help navigate through the ever-changing scientific world! We hope it will become your place to explore and learn.Barnstable Intermediate School students are transitioning into a more in depth scientific learning. Students will be guided to challenge their scientific misconceptions and begin to foster a deeper understanding of the world around them. This year we will be very busy learning about the natural world and the interrelatedness of each finite component. Students will explore the predictable patterns of the Earth from deep within the core to light years away, as well as, how engineers use scientific knowledge to make life easier and safer for all of us!What is Pre-AP at BIS?BIS science teachers believe that providing BIS students with the right strategies and tools, they can increase their achievement as they prepare for high school. Allowing ALL middle school students to learn and practice higher-level thinking, reading, and writing can open doors for many kids who traditionally would not have considered an Advanced Placement or honors course in High School. Throughout the year, the science department is committed to infusing pre-AP lessons into each of our units.6th gradeThis year in 6th grade science students will start the year by researching a tool important to all scientists-- a NOTEBOOK!Our first unit introduces our students to an interactive science notebook which they will use to record and work with new information that they learn.**Parents--we encourage you to have your child share this notebook weekly.**--6th Grade Year at a Glance--Unit Title

7th GradeThis year we will be putting our scientific minds to work as we explore the uniqueness of our planet Earth. Students will be challenged to dive deep into the scientific data and evidence that form our current day theories. Students will continue to foster a richer understanding of scientific concepts and challenge their past misconceptions as our year evolves. Each of our 7th grade teams have an Ipad cart that students use daily. The science teachers are integrating ibooks, apps, and web tools into each of the existing units. The Ipads allow our students and teachers to access the real time data that in the science world is continuously changing!7th Grade Year at a Glance7th grade units
