Medical Statement to Request Special Meals and/or Accommodations Child Nutrition Programs
Note: According to 7 CFR, part 226.20 food substitutions for medical reasons can be made only when there is a written statement from a medical authority. This written statement must include the medical reason and recommended alternate foods.
All students in Barnstable Public Schools will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2025-2026 school year as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a non-pricing meal service option for qualifying schools and school districts. CEP allows breakfast and lunch to be offered to all enrolled students at no cost. Schools and school districts that qualify are reimbursed for meals using a formula based on the percentage of students that are categorically eligible for free meals based on their participation in other State assistance programs.
Students will still have the option to purchase additional meals, food & snack items, and beverages at à la carte prices. À la carte items can be paid for in cash or by prepayment on the student’s cafeteria account. Prepayments can be made by setting up an account at myschoolbucks.com.

All Barnstable Public Schools offer our students the USDA Offer versus Serve program for both Breakfast and Lunch.
What is OVS? The goal of OVS is to reduce food waste while allowing students to choose the foods they want to eat. Everyone plays a role. When students understand OVS, lines move smoothly, allowing students to make the most of meal time and enjoy the wholesome and appealing foods they are served.
Offer versus Serve is slightly different based on grade groupings.

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online at: USDA Discrimination Complaint Form, from any USDA office, by calling (866) 632-9992, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant's name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation.
