BARNSTABLE, Mass. — During its annual Shop with a Cop event on Thursday, Barnstable’s School Resource Officers provided holiday shopping sprees for nine deserving students from Barnstable Public Schools.
The special day for students, ranging from elementary to high school age, began with lunch provided by Sam Diego’s Mexican Restaurant in Hyannis, complete with a visit from Santa himself. From there the students made their way to Macy’s at the Cape Cod Mall, where they were given $300 to shop, thanks to gift cards provided by Macy’s.
“Typically we select the student that we believe deserves something special and deserves
holiday cheer,” said Barnstable High School Resource Officer Dennis Stampfl. “This provides a chance for kids to receive or give gifts to their family, if they might not be able to do so.”
Additionally, Shop with a Cop provides an opportunity to enhance relationships to promote a positive school culture and build bridges within the community. “We are definitely fortunate enough that we get to spend every day with these kids and get to learn about them,” Stampfl said. “By doing this we get to break down walls, make some
connections, and build positive relationships with the students and their families.”
