    Dear Families,

Thank you so much for making time in your busy schedules to meet with me last week to discuss your child’s progress in school.  I enjoyed talking with each one of you. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time throughout the year if you have any questions or concerns.

Holiday time is a busy and exciting time of year for Kindergarteners.  We are working very hard in class to stick to our routines and do our best learning.  Being responsible and respectful students is still the expectation. Please make sure your student is getting a good night’s sleep each night so that they are able to stay focused at school.

In Language Arts we are focusing on the letter Ii.  We are learning to blend the sounds in words. This week’s sight word is and.  We are learning about our 5 senses and how our senses help us to gather information about what is around us.  We are reading many books about the holiday season and sharing our family traditions with each other. Please make time to read to your child each night.  The Hyannis public Library is a great place to visit and borrow books!

In Math we continue to work on counting and math activities that will help to build number sense.  We are learning to add numbers to make 10. This week we have begun to learn how to sort objects into groups, paying attention to how things are the same and different.

Our Second Step lessons have focused feelings.  Your child is learning to focus attention on his or her own body to figure out his or her feelings.  Your child is also learning that if the feelings are uncomfortable, it helps to talk about them with an adult.  Ask your child to sing the “Feelings Song” to you!

Next Thursday we will be making gingerbread houses with our school family.  I sent a note home this earlier this week requesting supplies for this activity.  If you are able to contribute please send in what I have requested by Monday, December 16.  If you cannot, please let me know. All are welcome to help with this activity. We will begin around 9:30 in the cafeteria.

Please make sure that your student is dressed appropriately for the cold weather.  We go outside for recess twice a day unless the wind chill falls below 19 degrees!

Have a wonderful weekend with your family!!

    Sincerely,

    Suzanne Hallam
