  • Hello Hyannis West Families!

The final 6 weeks of school are going to be busy with lots of learning and lots of fun!

    • Thank you to all the Hy West families who completed the Family Survey. While we only had about 30% of our families complete the survey, we have gained some useful information. We are in the process of reviewing and analyzing the results.  We will share the results with our families in an upcoming newsletter.
    • Our 2nd graders recently went on their FIRST field trip EVER! They spent some time at Long Pasture Audubon applying what they learned about tidal flats.  The kids had fun and the Long Pasture staff was impressed by our students’ knowledge and their amazing behavior.
    • This past week, our 3rd grade classes learned a lot about sharks through a visit from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. The Enoch Cobb Trust funded this fun and engaging program for our students.
    • Our Star Expectation this week is personal space. With an increase in Covid cases, flu, strep throat, and stomach “bug”, it is especially important that we remind others about keeping personal space.
    • This past week I emailed all families Covid Reminders and Recommendations. With Covid cases increasing in our town and our school, it is important that you contact the school immediately if your child is symptomatic, tests positive, or is exposed to someone with Covid.  Since mask wearing is optional and distancing is not required, our best way to protect each other is to communicate.  If you have access to a home test, you should give that to your child before they return to school tomorrow.
    • We are starting to prepare our classes for the next school year. If you have moved or are moving and are no longer in the Hyannis West attendance area, please contact us asap so we can support you with the transfer process.
    • In the next couple of weeks, all students will be participating in district-wide reading and/or math benchmark assessments. This benchmark will provide us with information about your child’s academic progress and growth during this school year.  I can’t wait to see how far our students have come!
    • Our 3rd Graders will participate in MCAS Math testing on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Please ensure that your 3rd grader attends school (if they are well) and arrives on time.  Thank you!
    • Contact information must be updated for your child each year.
      • Update information
      • If you don’t know your child’s 6-digit LASID number, please contact me, Mr. Currey, or your child’s teacher.
    • Save the Date! Our Title I Department will be hosting a Game Night for Hyannis West students and their families on June 9th, 5:45 - 6:45 in the Hy West Courtyard.  Bring a blanket and a game to play. This is a great chance to meet other Hy West families.  More information will be sent home in backpacks soon.
    • Our next PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization) meeting is Wednesday, June 1st at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. We’d love to see you!
    • If your child is sick and cannot attend school, please report their absence to Nurse Ricki at (508) 790-6480 ext. 1532 or via email.

Have a wonderful week! If you ever have any questions, concerns or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Currey or me.
