BPS District Volunteer Program – Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why are we launching a new Volunteer Program?
We acknowledge all of our committed volunteers who are working hard in our schools, and we would like to expand! There are many opportunities to become involved in our school district and we are actively seeking volunteers to fill them. Our new Volunteer Program aims to recruit volunteers for specific opportunities, train and recognize volunteers, and provide a meaningful experience for both the school and the volunteer.
-
What’s new about this program?
The Volunteer Program actively seeks parents, grandparents, family members, as well as businesses, churches, and other community members wishing to volunteer their time to make a difference in our schools. With the roll out of the new Volunteer Program, we will also implement new volunteer software: Volunteer Tracker.
-
How can I become a volunteer?
The first step is to REGISTER and then complete an APPLICATION. Depending on the volunteer activity, you will be required to enter additional information to be submitted for a background check.
-
Why do I need a background check?
Anyone wishing to volunteer in a Level 1 Activity will be required to pass a background check. All Level 1 activities work directly with students. Level 2 activities will not have direct contact with students. An example of a Level 1 activity is volunteering as a chaperone.
-
Can I volunteer if I do not do a background check?
You must still be registered in our system and have passed a CORI to volunteer.
-
Why is the district using the Volunteer Tracker App?
The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. We are asking that volunteers sign in and out electronically so we can ensure the safety of all students and staff. In addition, this software allows volunteers to sign up for opportunities based on their interests. Volunteers will also be notified of upcoming opportunities that fall within their interests.
-
Why do I need to sign in/out electronically?
By signing in and out we can increase the safety of our students and anyone in the building. In addition, the Volunteer Tracker program provides the District important information regarding volunteer interests (reading with students, chaperoning trips, gardening, etc.) and which schools may need additional support in recruiting volunteers.
-
What if I forget to sign in/out?
If you forget to sign in/out, you can always do this at a later time on your volunteer profile. You can also ask the school secretary for assistance.
-
How can I use Garden App - Volunteer Tracker?
First, REGISTER. An email will be sent to your email account for confirmation. Once you receive the confirmation email, complete your volunteer application. Once your volunteer application has been submitted and approved, in Volunteer Tracker, click on Opportunities and browse the different needs across the district. You can filter by school and/or activity.
