Hello Hyannis West Families!
Please enjoy this weekly newsletter that will keep you informed and updated with what’s happening at Hyannis West.
- We hope your child enjoyed the Snow Day on Friday! If you did not receive a call or email about the cancellation of school, please update your contact information. Directions how to do this can be found at the end of this newsletter.
- A reminder that this Wednesday, January 12th is a HALF Day of School for teacher professional development. Pick-up is at 11:45 and buses will leave at approximately 12:00. In addition, there is NO after school daycare or 21st Century Program.
- Tomorrow, Hyannis West is fortunate to host a visit by one of the three potential candidates for the Barnstable Public School Superintendent position, Dr. Sara Ahern. The visit will occur from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. I am looking forward to showing off our amazing students and staff! Also, on Monday, the public can view School Committee interviews for all 3 candidates on Channel 22 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
- Let the Penny War begin!! For the next two weeks, we have a school-wide competition going on that will help the Hy West PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) raise money for our Playground Project. Each classroom has a collection bucket - the classroom at each grade level that collects the most coins/bills over the next two weeks will get an amazing prize! Here are the fliers: English Penny War Flier, Portuguese Penny War Flier, Spanish Penny War Flier.
- This upcoming week, the Hy West Star Expectation is still whole body listening. The Star Students from last week will receive a certificate, a free book from our Book Vending Machine, and have their picture displayed on a bulletin board at school.
- So that we can keep school open and keep everyone healthy, please be sure to follow the following protocols:
- If your child is sick, please keep them home and contact Ricki Balestri, our School Nurse (508) 790-6480 ext. 1532. If your child arrives at school with COVID-like symptoms, they will be sent home.
- If someone at home has tested positive, your child will need to quarantine at home. Please call our School Nurse for quarantine timelines.
- Please send your child to school with a mask that fits properly over their nose and mouth. This includes when they ride the bus in the morning.
- Our next PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization) meeting is Wednesday, February 2nd at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. Hope to see you!
- It’s extremely important to update your child’s contact information each year.
