Barnstable Gateway Department September 2021
Welcome to Gateway
We are so excited to have everyone back this school year! Although we were able to provide limited opportunities in Gateway last year, we are functioning at full capacity this year and are eager to help develop the talents of all students in Barnstable through our tiered support.
What is Gateway?
GATEWAY is an acronym which stands for “Gifted And Talented Education With All Youth''. Our mission is to support all students through talent development and to identify, challenge, and encourage academically advanced and creative learners. Visit our parent and staff pages for frequently asked questions for more information for grades K-7. Information about programs at BHS can be found on the Barnstable High School Gateway page.

Hello Barnstable Community! Mrs. Tabor is an elementary Gateway teacher. She will be working at West Villages & Hyannis West this year. She taught in Barnstable as a classroom teacher for many years, and is excited to now be a part of the Gateway team. Mrs. Tabor’s own four children attend Barnstable Public Schools & have greatly benefited from the enriching experiences provided by Gateway. She is looking forward to working with students this year!
Mrs. Zontini is an elementary Gateway teacher. She is excited to be starting her fifth year with Barnstable Public Schools. When she is not teaching, she can be found spending time with her two daughters enjoying the outdoors. Whether it's fishing, crabbing, hiking, kayaking, or managing a bird sanctuary, they enjoy Cape Cod all year round. During the school week, she will travel between three elementary schools: Centerville Elementary, Barnstable Community Innovation School, and BWB. Her favorite part of being a Gateway Specialist is getting to know the students and their learning styles in order to provide enriching and challenging learning experiences.
Mrs. Bogosian is the ELA and FPS Gateway Teacher at Barnstable United Elementary. This is her seventh year in the Gateway Department. Before teaching in Barnstable, she was a 4th and 5th grade classroom teacher in Brockton, Ma , as well as a 6th grade English teacher in Sharon, Ma. When she is not in school, she loves to read, exercise and bake. Mrs. Bogosian enjoys spending time outdoors with her sons and dogs. She is looking forward to in- person reading, writing, learning and exploring this year!
Mrs. Marks is the 4th and 5th Grade Gateway Specialist for Math and STEM. She lives in Marstons Mills with her husband. She has two adult, married children and three beautiful grandchildren. Mrs. Marks loves to golf, sail, cook, read, spend time with her family, and loves to be outside. This is her 29th year teaching. She spent most of those years teaching 5th grade, but did teach Title 1 Math for 3 years. Six years ago Mrs. Marks switched jobs to teach Math and STEM Gateway to 4th and 5th graders, although because of Covid, had to teach 4th grade last year. She is so excited to be back! Mrs. Marks loves teaching math and STEM. Math has always been a passion of hers. It’s so much fun to see how engaged students are during STEM class as they create solutions to problems. Mrs. Marks is looking forward to a fun year of math challenges with you and can’t wait to see your creations and solutions to our STEM challenges. It’s going to be a fun year of learning.
Mrs. Debra Contrino is a Gateway teacher at Barnstable Intermediate School. She teaches Advanced ELA and Future Problem Solving to students in Grades 6 and 7, and also coaches our Barnstable High School Future Problem Solvers in Grades 8 and 9. She was formerly a high school ELA teacher, and this is her 11th year teaching Gateway students at BIS. Mrs. Contrino is the busy mom of four teenaged children, and she enjoys reading, yoga, walking her dog, rooting for our Barnstable Red Hawks teams, and all of our New England Sports teams!
Mrs. Eklund is in her 9th year teaching math and science in grades 6 - 8, and starting her fourth year teaching Advanced Math and STEM to our amazing Gateway students.
Mrs. Salley is an English teacher at BHS, a Scenario Writing coach and FPS team coach for the senior division--grades 10-12. She loves teaching English to sophomores and AP Literature to seniors. Before she began at Barnstable over 25 years ago, Mrs. Salley was a Visual Editor for an educational media company outside of New York City. I worked on storyboarding with the writer, and staging photo shoots with the photographer. Those collaborations were invaluable in helping me coach teams for FPS. On the other hand, I find great joy in working with individual students on their scenarios, using skills I learned as a freelance writer and editor. It’s so rewarding to see young writers find and develop their own creative voice.
