• Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year in the Barnstable Intermediate School Strings!

In our music program students will develop a sense of responsibility, self-discipline, social skills, confidence, leadership and dependability. Being in strings will give students a sense of accomplishment and pride, and students will develop musical skills, which will enrich their lives. Strings is a wonderful opportunity to make life-long friends. Students attend one string rehearsal and one group lesson per week. Private lessons are encouraged! See Mrs. Nickerson for help finding a teacher.

          ****String Jamboree - March 22, 2018****

Please read letter below for information concerning this event.

    Dear Music Parent/Guardian,

You are reading this message because your child has been invited to participate in the Cape Cod Music Educators Association's 2017-2018 String Jamboree. As many of you know, this is a great event that provides students with the opportunity to perform with hundreds of their peers from across Cape Cod and the Islands.

This year, the festival will be hosted at the Quashnet School, 150 Old Barnstable Rd. in Mashpee, MA 02649  on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 1:00-7:00 pm, with the performance beginning at 6:00 pm in the gymnasium.  Students will be dismissed from school at approximately 12:15PM, for a 12:25PM departure. Students will be transported via school bus to the Jamboree. At the conclusion of the concert, parents will provide transportation home for their children.

In order to help the host school defray some of the costs associated with this event, there will be a requested donation of $2.00 for adult audience members at the door.

All students should bring a snack (nut free only, please) or drink (water or juice only, please, no soda) to share for the afternoon break. Please remind your child that they must bring a snack or drink to share in order to take a snack or drink.

As per the host school, concert dress will be the following:

Female – dress, skirt and blouse, or blouse and long dress pants (no yoga pants)

Male – dress pants (no jeans!) and shirt with a long tie

Students will have time to change into their concert dress at the festival.

    Students should bring:

    • Instrument and Bow (Rosin and Extra Strings )
    • Music and Music Folder
    • Pencil
    • A Folding Music Stand, labeled with their name and school, if possible
    • Concert Dress
    • Snack to share (nut free) & sack dinner

Although this event is not required, I highly encourage all BUES 5th grade students to participate. There will be no grade reduction for non-participation. Although students will be excused from class at 12:15PM, they will be required to complete all missed work in a timely fashion, per the Barnstable Public Schools Field Trip Policy.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

    Thank you,

    Robin Nickerson,
