    Developing Talents and Interests in Gateway

    All students in Barnstable have talents and interests to be celebrated and developed!  Students can access many links for enrichment and exploration on the Gateway Enrichment and Extension Resources webpage.  The page further breaks down interest enrichment and academic enrichment opportunities. 

    • Interest Ernichment: Career, Arts, Technology, and various interest topics
    • Academic Enrichment: English Language Arts, math, science, and social studies. 

    Some examples of the enrichment links include: 

    • Learn How to Write Code (Technology)
    • Piskel - Editor for Animation (Technology)
    • Science Careers (Careers)
    • US History (Social Studies)

    In addition, many reources are available at the Gateway Office.  Students can sumbit a request form online or speak with a Gateway teacher. 

     

    Future Problem Solving Fundraising

    Please help support competitive students in FPS by visiting Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Hyannis the first Friday of each month between 3:00pm-8:00pm.  20% of the sales support Barnstable FPS!

    Future Problem Solving is our most competitive all-around academic program. Visit the Future Problem Solving Page. Students are introduce to FPS beginning in grades 4 and 5, begin training for competition in grade six, and teams of four compete in grades 7 - 12. Students must use advanced research skills, teamwork, critical and creative thinking over 17 specific categories, and follow a model to solve a futuristic problem.

    Advanced Studies and Leadership Program

    Students in Grades 7 and 8 who placed in the top 15% in MCAS scores over the previous two years will be notified and encouraged to apply for acceptance in this year’s Advanced Studies and Leadership Program (ASLP).  There will be a parent/student information meeting for identified students on November 20th at Barnstable Intermediate School from 6:00-7:00pm. Mr. Steve Kelleher and previous participants in the program will be the guest speakers.  

    Mock Trial at BHS

    Mock Trial preparations have begun at BHS!  Students in grades 8-12.  Please visit the Mock Trial webpage for more information.
