    Barnstable Clean Water Coalition and Barnstable Department of Natural Resources

    Volunteer for Herring Count

    Barnstable Clean Water Coalition and the Barnstable DNR are looking for volunteers to assist with the annual spring herring count beginning on April 1st at the Mill and Middle Pond fish ladders.  A training session will be provided.  The Annual Marstons Mills River Herring Counter Taining Session is Saturday, March 7th from 9am-11am at the Osterville Village Library, 43 Wianno Ave.Amy Croteau (Barnstable DNR) will provide an update on the town's herring runs.  John Sheppard, Diadromous Fisheries Biologist for the MA Division of Marine Fisheries, will talk about how DMF estimates herring run sized using visual count data collected by volunteers.  Following the speakers, there will be a brief training and refresher session for all new, interested and returning volunteers.  To volunteer or for more information, contact Heather Rockwell at hrockwell@bcleanwater.org or call (508)420-0780.

    After School Homework Help

    BIS is looking for student volunteers to help middle school students with homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-4:00pm.  Your commitment could be one day or both.  Please email Ms. Roth (roth_alicia@mybps.us)or Mrs. Mullin (mullin_jennifer@mybps.us) if you are interested.

     

    Children's Cove                                                                                                                                                                                           

    Children's Cove, The Cape & Islands Children's Advocacy Center, is seeking volunteers to help spread awareness of child abuse and the services offered by Children's Cove.  Various volunteer positions are listed below.

    Children's Cove Ambassador-responsible for helping to build and maintain community relations, as well as serve as representatives on behalf of Children's Cove.  Children's Cove Ambassadors will oversee all community connections they have facilitated as well as help to coordinate comprehensive communications with Children's Cove.  Please click here for more information about the Children's Cove Ambassador.

    Awareness Material Distributor-responsible for managing a specified amount of awareness materials on behalf of Children's Cove.  An Awareness Material Distributor will oversee a specific area of distribution drop-off locations, coordinate new sites, facilitate and conduct brief informational pitches to interested parties.  Please click here for more information about the Awareness Material Distributor.

    Inside Representative-The Inside Representative is responsible for generating leads, advancing the awareness process, and being a liaison between interested organizations and Children's Cove.  The inside Representative will conduct reserach to identify leads and reach organizations through telephone, email, and in-person.  This individual will also actively participate in the planning and execution of Children's Cove awareness activities providing vital input based on his/her interactions with prospective partners.  Please click here for more information about the Awareness Material Distributor.
