    What is Destination Imagination?

It is a volunteer-led organization whose purpose is to equip students to creatively solve challenges as a team.  Teams learn 21st Century skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.  Children present their problem solution at a regional tournament. They also compete in an Instant Challenge to quickly solve a problem as a team.

Who is eligible to be on a DI Team?

All Barnstable Public Schools students, K-12, are eligible.

How do I get my child on a DI team?

Become a Team Manager and create your own team.  Because Team Managers can choose their own team members, there are rarely spots open for members on a wait list.  You can always check with the BPS DI Coordinator, Lynore Frew, who keeps track of open slots.

    What is the cost?

The cost is $75 per student. Children who have free and reduced lunch status, and children of Team Managers, do NOT have to pay a fee.

    How much time is involved?

Teams usually meet from October to mid-March, once a week, at a location chosen by the Team Manager.  The teams meet from one to one-and-a-half hours. We can reserve school space for use of the teams.

How do I know what to do at the meetings?

Once your registration materials have been turned in to the DI Coordinator, you will download detailed instructional manuals on how to run each meeting, and how to prepare your children for the March tournament.  Also, Team Manager training sessions are offered with specific information for your special challenge.

What support is there for Team Managers?

The best support is to have a co-Manager, who shares the duties of managing the team.

All Team Managers are invited to a local informational session in November, and a comprehensive training in January at Grafton Middle School.  The Massachusetts director of DI is always available with personal help, as well as the BPS DI Coordinator, Lynore Frew   frew_lynore@mybps.us
