WELCOME 

I am Mrs. McCarty and I am so happy to be back working with your scholar this year. We have had a wonderful beginning of the school year and I am so excited to see what the rest of the year holds. Here is what we have been learning about. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 

“What does it take to survive?” That is the big question we are exploring in this unit. To answer it, we are reading, writing, and talking about animal adaptations and how they help animals get what they need to survive. This week we are learning about final consonant blends. 

SOCIAL STUDIES

In order to understand our English Language Arts concepts we have been understanding animal adaptations 

MATH 

Students have been investigating how to represent adding and subtracting on a number line. It is important for thinking to be flexible and open. Students are encouraged to add and subtract using strategies that are familiar to them. For parents and families the math students are learning is much different than our version or “borrowing” or “carrying”. I’d be happy to explain it in more depth, because it is MIND BLOWING!!
