November 19, 2023
Hello Hy West Families,
-
There are only 2 days of school this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. There is no school from November 22nd to November 26th. We will see all the students back on Monday, November 27th. The next Hy West Family News will be sent home on Sunday, December 3rd. We wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving!
-
Your child’s first trimester report card will be sent home on Friday, December 1st. The report card will show how your child is progressing toward grade level standards. The standards listed on the report card are what students are expected to know and be able to do by the end of the school year. If your child receives English or Special Education services, they will receive a progress report in addition to their report card. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions when you attend the Family Conference in December.
-
Connection between family and school is critical to a child’s success! Tomorrow afternoon, please look in your child’s backpack for the scheduled day and time to meet with your child’s teacher for a Family Conference in December. During the 20 minute meeting you will hear about your child’s strengths, their areas for growth, and how you can support their learning at home. Interpreters will be available. Please complete the form and return it to school asap. Thank you!
-
Due to Family Conferences, Tuesday, December 5th and Thursday, December 7th are both half days of school. Pick up is at 11:45 and buses depart at 12:00 pm. There is no after school daycare or 21st Century programs on those days.
-
To acknowledge Native American/Indigenous Peoples Month, each day this month, a 3rd grade student has been sharing a fact they have learned about Indigenous People during our school-wide Morning Announcements.
-
Hyannis West received a donation of winter jackets from the Knights of Columbus. If your child is in need of a winter jacket, please email your child's name and coat size to Mr. Currey (currey_eric@mybps.us).We have a small number of coats and they will be offered based on supply and when the email is received. Jackets will be given out on Monday and Tuesday.

Our ;school-wide Star Expectation last week was being quiet when the chime rings. At the end of each week, classrooms submit the name of one student who consistently followed the expectation for that week. Congratulations to last week’s Star Students!
