Mr. Keenan’s Notes

Updates

This is the final newsletter update for this school year.  The year has had so many ups and downs but we were able to make it through.  We were able to make it through very difficult situations because of great support from staff, parents and volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and made difficult situations manageable.  No matter where the final outcome may place us we can all take great solace in that the students at MMEHMCPS had a wonderful year and excelled in so many areas too numerous to mention.

As I write this final newsletter of the year, I’d like to remind everyone to have a safe and restful summer vacation.  Please feel free to contact me by email at anytime during the summer or stop by and visit me at our new location.

Update from the Board of Trustees

Heating Plant Installation Process

Last week’s newsletter included the first of many status reports to come regarding installation of the heating plant at our school.  Because it’s not about just replacing the boiler, we’ll be referring to this capital project as the heating plant.  Again, the right system needs to perform for 30+ years, must be efficient, must contain backup systems; and most importantly, must be safe for the students and staff during and after installation.   The target start date is mid-May, 2010.

While the District has earmarked the capital funds for this project, we are taking the initiative to ensure that we know what type of system is being installed and that we are kept abreast of what is happening each step of the way.  Therefore, a special “Thank You” goes out to Melissa Caughey, one of our parents, for accepting an assignment to liaise with Tony Lacina, Director of Facilities for Barnstable Public Schools, for the duration of this project.  Melissa’s role will be to communicate directly with Tony on a regular basis, and report back so that we can be sure to pass the information on to our community in a timely manner.  Tony has assured us that he will fulfill this commitment to our school building regarding the heating plant.

Currently, four of the seven designers who responded to the initial bid, are being interviewed.  We’ll have another update for you when you come to school in September.
