![]() Learners This WebQuest on the Dewey Decimal System has been originally designed for elementary students -- Grade 4 through Grade 6. However, this lesson can be extended to Grade 7. They could get more involved with the subdividing of the Dewey Decimal System. In addition, if you have Grade 3 children who are comfortable with using the Internet, this lesson can be adapted to that grade level. This lesson can be done in the classroom, in the library as part of their library instruction, or in the technology lab. Students can be instructed to work in collaboration -- you can choose the students to work independently, in groups of two or groups of three. The teacher will describe what works best with the class. Each group member will fill out their own worksheet. It is a wonderful lesson that can be adapted many ways. The knowledge learning objectives are focused around the 10 classifications in the Dewey Decimal System and the ability to differentiate between fiction and non-fiction along with identifying what a call number is. The process objective in the WebQuest is to follow a link to a web site, get the information, and be able to navigate back to the WebQuest page. The prerequisites for this WebQuest are:
