Dear Parents,
Within this packet please find our school “report card” for the current year. It contains information about teacher qualifications, student achievement as measured by the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) and how our school is progressing towards the goal of every child becoming “proficient” in Mathematics and ELA (English Language Arts).
As you will see in our report card, all BWB teachers are highly qualified. The latest MCAS results are outlined by subgroups and subjects on pages 3-6. One key measure of student performance is the Composite Performance Index (CPI), a measure of the distribution of student performance to attaining proficiency. The scale for this measure runs from 0-100. Last school year BWB students in Grade Three attained CPI scores of 89.1 in ELA (in the high range) and 88.3 in Math (also in the high range). You will find this information in the pages that review Accountability Data.
The good news for Barnstable-West Barnstable Elementary School is that our school is not identified as a school in need of improvement, corrective action or restructuring (our NCLB Accountability Status).
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further questions about the BWB School Report Card.
Sincerely,
Frank Gigliotti
Principal
Please Note:
This packet was sent to home with the oldest child of each family so as not to send home duplicate copies.
This report can also be found on the BWB Website. The report card also contains information on how Massachusetts students in Grades 4 & 8 performed in 2009 on the National Assessment of Educational Progress in Reading and Math as compared to the rest of the country.
