James Otis & Mercy Otis Warren Award:
This award is named after James Otis, known as the "Patriot" from Barnstable whose emotional speeches helped lay the groundwork for American independence and his sister Mercy, who supported her brother's causes as well as civil rights for all. The recipient of this award is a senior who displays high academics, service to the community, leadership, strong character and a high interest in social studies.

Mount Holyoke Book Award:
Each year, the Mount Holyoke Book award is presented to local high school female juniors with outstanding academic records and who have exhibited leadership qualities and service at school and in the community.

Current Events March Madness Tournament:
Each spring, the social studies department competes against each other in a current events trivia game.  The event is held in jeopardy style format, where the scores carry over from week to week.  The team with the highest score after the 'regular season' and 'post season' wins

Constitution Bowl:
Each September, the social studies department competes in the constitution bowl as part of its celebration of constitution week. Classes compete in a Jeopardy style format, with questions revolving around the constitution and U.S History.

Each month a different department elects a male and female student that has stood out amongst their peers and exemplified the characteristics of an ideal student.  Below, lists the year, month, and names of the Social Studies receipients.
