Barnstable High School Health Services
 
BHS Health Services are located in room 1306. The suite contains both the school nurse office and Community Health Center of Cape Cod (CHCCC SBHC) providing health services for students and staff at Barnstable High School. A collaborative environment exists to promote health and wellness. 
Services provided by the School Nurse(s) include:
 
- State mandated yearly screenings which include vision and hearing, height and weight and scoliosis screenings
- Screening and counseling on nutrition, eating disorders, weight management, blood pressure
- Medication administration and monitoring for students who require medications in the school setting
- Skilled nursing care, including special health care needs, and individual health care plans (IHPS)
- Monitoring of mandated immunizations per Massachusetts Department Public Health (MDPH)
- Acute and emergency care and triaging
- Health counseling and education including smoking cessation
- Crisis intervention
- Referrals and communication/collaboration with CHCCCH SBHC staff, Primary Care Physician’s, dental services, parents/guardians, school support staff and community-based services.
- Assistance in obtaining health insurance and primary care physicians.
- Participation in annual sports physicals for high school and middle school students participating in school sports. (**note these physicals are for sports only and cannot be used for camp, work permits, or required school physicals. Required school physicals during high school include 10th grade, for frequent absences due to unexplained illness, transferring students, students 16, and over 14 years of age requesting employment certificates, and participation in competitive athletics prior to participation.
