Our Philosophy
Art and Applied Technology education should e a basic part of a comprehensive secondary school program. Barnstable Public Schools have long supported srong and effective art programs.
The arts can be forceful in depicting and alerting people to society’s inequities. Arts education also can be a force in changing traditional perceptions and patterns that limit individual expression. Curriculuum planners and teachers of the arts need to guard against stereotyped sorting, grouping, and tracking of students by factors such as sex, race, color, ethnicity and physical and mental abilities. These preactices prevent students from exploring all of the options and opportunities in which they have a talent or an interest. Such treatment has a significant cost in an individuals’s academic achievement, psychological and physical development, career choice, and relationships with other people. Every student should have the chance to be challenged, grow, develop and chieve identity. |
