Welcome to the 2014-2015 School Year at Barnstable-West Barnstable Elementary School
August 19, 2014
The start of the school year is just around the corner. We sent out a mailing to all incoming students during the first week of August. If you did not recieve that mailing please contact the school at 508-362-4949.
While summer is certainly a time to rest and relax our students entering Grades 1-3 did have a task to accomplish. Each student was given a book to read at their particular garde level to serve as a kick-off to the new school year. If you are a newly registered family and have not yet picked up your book. I urge you to call the school and make arangements to do so.
Prior to school starting we will hold an Open House for all students on Thursday, August 28th from 3:30-5:30 PM. I hope you can take advantage of this opportunity for each student to meet their teacher and locate their classroom. It also serves as a great lead-in to the first day of school which is on Tuesday, September 2nd. That day is a full day of school for students in Grades 1-3. On that Tuesday Kindergarten students will be here for a short orientation. Those times were specified in the August mailing. If you are unclear as to your child's orientation time please contact the BWB main office.
Curriculum Night will take place on Wednesday, September 10th. We split the evening into two sessions to help with parking. The first session will run from 6:30-7:10 PM for families who's last name begin with M-Z. The second session from 7:20-8:00 PM is for parents whose last names begin with A-L. If you have two children you will probably want to attend both sessions. If the assigned times do not work for you, attend the session that works best. This is an evening for parents only.
Finally, the first BWB PTA meeting of this school year will take place on Wednesday, September 17th at 7:00 PM in the school cafeteria. Every parent is a member of the PTA. I hope you can become actively involved in at least one PTA sponsored event at some point this school year.
The opening of a school is one of my favorite times of each school year. there is much excitement and anticipation. I am looking forward to working with the BWB school community in making this a successful year for our students.
