 PRINCIPAL’S NOTEBOOK

Things to know right away

  •  Friday, December 5th is Crazy Hat Day at BWB.  Students are invited to wear a favorite hat, a silly hat or any hat as we celebrate December’s BWB School Spirit Day.
  • Also on Friday Report Cards will be coming home.
  • Our PTA recently ran a candle fundraiser.  Those orders have come in.  A notice has been sent home asking parents to pick-up their orders in the morning as students come or just before dismissal in the afternoon.  Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Next Tuesday, December 9th and Thursday, December 11th are parent conference days.  All students will be dismissed at 12:00 Noon.  Lunch will not be served and there is no afterschool day care on either day.  If by chance you do not have a conference time scheduled please contact your child’s teacher.
  • The time at the PTA meeting next Wednesday, December 10th was listed incorrectly in the calendar sent home yesterday.  The actual time of the PTA meeting next week is 7:00 PM.

And a note about the future

On a personal note, after thirty-five years in education, the last fifteen as Principal at Barnstable-West Barnstable Elementary, I have decided to retire at the end of this school year.

I am one of those lucky people who enjoys his job and all the people I interact with on a daily basis. While each day may bring a new challenge there is also the opportunity to observe the growth and energy of my students (which is the reason I entered this profession in the first place). Yet, it is time for me to begin a new phase of my life. It is also a good time for a new leader to take the helm. BWB has only had three Principals in its fifty-eight years of existence. I believe that every organization can be invigorated when there is a leadership change; so too can BWB Elementary.

A search committee comprised of faculty, parents and other school system personnel will probably be put together in January. I will keep you apprised of details as they develop.

I thank all for your past and continued support as we proceed to a productive and positive rest of this school year.
